Site Information
This site began as an experiment to create a dynamic Psalter while learning to use the Seaside framework for Squeak The Psalter is a Septuagint translation called "The Psalter According to the Seventy" by The Holy Transfiguration Monastery. The horologion prayers come from "The Great Horologion" also published by The Holy Transfiguration Monastery. Both are used with their kind permission. Finally the daily Troparion and Kontakion come from the MENOLOGION 3.0 program.
Goals:
The short term goal was to create a Psalter which will automatically display the current readings for the current service based on the user's time. This is finished and you can view the current kathisma readings for the time of day by clicking on the "Current Kathisma" link in the navigation on the left. It will display either the matins or vespers kathisma reading for the day, depending on what time it is. On this site, the reading changes at noon.
The long term goal was to create a Horologion which will also display the current service of the hours for whatever time it is on the user's machine. Eventually we might like to add a General Menaion and perhaps an Octoechos for at least a single tone until a complete Octoechos is avaliable. Other things in consideration are a lectionary, a Synaxarion or lives of the saints, and feast day/paschal services. But in the meantime, there are plenty of sites out there offering this information such as this one, this one, this one. There are also downloadable tools such as the Menologion program for Windows.
